Five River Destinations in Palembang

Welcome to Palembang many history in here such as Srivijaya kingdom, Post Srivijaya kingdom, Palembang Sultanate, Colonial, Japanese Occupation, National Revolution, Old Order and New Order and Reformasi period.

Palembang is the oldest city in Indonesian and also one of the oldest cities in the Malay Archipelago and Southeast Asia. The first inscription in which the name Srivijaya appears also dates from the 7th century, namely the Kedudukan Bukit Inscription around Palembang in Sumatera, date 683.

So i will try stories began about Five River Destination in Palembang, maybe all friends known about Palembang Just Ampera Bridge but Ampera Bridge build above Musi River where is Palembang devided by Musi River into two major area known as Seberang Ilir in the North and Seberang Ulu in the South. 

Here are some of the river attractions in Palembang that must be friends visit. 

Kemaro Island

First time i am visit this place with my friend from sabah (Malaysian) this island located in a small delta of Musi River, it is located 40km from Palembang betwen the industrial areas of Sriwijaya Fertilizer Plant and Pertamina Oil Refinery in Plaju Gerong River.

we are visit with "Perahu Ketek" traditional motorboat a wooden boat which using small engine and moves quite slow.

In front of Klenteng, there is grace yard of Prince Tan Bun An from Chinese and Princess Siti Fatimah of Sriwijaya.

Chienes Temple

When we are visit Kemaro Island, there will be a Chinese Temple with nine stairs, there is Instagramable and not far from Chinese Temple is a tree of love that symbolizes the eternal love of Tan Bun An And Siti Fatimah. 

This Island is more crowded during Chinese Festivals like Cap Go Me or Imlek New Year such as from Singapore, Malaysia, China and Other Country.

Al - Munawar Village is old village where is ethnic and culture arab, this place now familiar be new destination because this place never be film movie with title "There is heaven at home".

This place familiar his name Arab Village because his place most of the people Arab, it is estimated that about 300 years ago, people who came to Palembang to trade and spread islam. most of them were inhabitants of Hadramaut. located in the coastal area of the peninsula, Southern Arabia.

the forms of houses that reside in  Al - Munawar Village, precisely in Al Munawar Village, just like the shape of Palembang community house in general. 

there are eight houses in  Al - Munawar Village  more than 250 years old, its Amazing right!!

Kapitan Village

When i was a kid i often visit here because my school isn't so far to get this location and my friends many going here, this location beside with 7 ulu market and 10 ulu market.

in this village, there are 15 houses but not all Chinese, the most striking is the building of the Capitan's house. the core building of Kapitan Village consists of 3 houses which also become the largest building here.

Captain Kapitan House

Captain Kapitan House has open area in the middle which is useful for air and sunlight. Inside, there is a table of altars that is useful for worship. there is also a photo of the 10th Capitan on the inside of the house that visitors can see. the red color of the majority also thicken Chinese atmosphere.

Baba Boenjit Market new destination in Palembang beside Musi River this place make it from Palembang Comunity (Genpi Sumsel) Why this place a new destination ? because this place easy with "Perahu Ketek" and then this place many history.

not different with Kapitan Village this place have to history about Chinese but about Ong Boenjit House. this place interisting for add knowledge with new storie and then this place Instagramable for Palembang Kids hehehe...

The Raft House

The raft house is a house built on water. this house is made up of bamboo as a floating tool of the house. formerly raft house floats are made only of bamboo, but now have added additional floating equipment such as drums and more. because it is built on water,.

The origin of raft houses, it is said that the raft houses built on the banks of the Musi River were formerly inhabited by Chinese descendants. Called as a raft house, because the shape and apparently it is like a complete raft. Built on a river because it used to be a source of food for livehood and water resources.
